The type of paint you choose can make a big difference in your painting project! Did you know that professional painters never use a paint product that is both paint and primer in one? If you're considering your next interior painting project and you're not sure what kind of paint to buy, read on for some basic information on paint that we've learned from our experience.

It's important to avoid using paint and primer in one products, as they can be misleading. Paint and primer should never be mixed, as you either need primer or you need paint. It's best to choose the right product for the job and avoid shortcuts that could lead to a less-than-perfect finish.

There are many different paint products available to choose from! At Fox Improvements, we use Sherman Williams paint, which offers a high-quality product that we trust. It's important to note that there are different paint types depending on what you're painting, such as ceiling, wall, door and trim, interior, exterior, and many more. Once you've determined the correct paint type, you must choose the correct finish selection to achieve the desired look.

The finish selection you choose depends on the room you're painting. If you want a wall that's easily washable and resistant to mold, you'll want to choose a Semi-Gloss to High Gloss finish selection. On the other hand, if you're painting a space where you won't be washing the walls often and you don't want bumps to show up, you'll want a Flat finish selection. For example, you would use a Semi-Gloss to High Gloss finish in your kitchen and bathrooms, while a flat finish is more suitable for the garage or ceilings. Note that Flat paint can be slightly harder to touch up with paint in the future.

Once you've picked the right finish selection for your job, the next step is choosing the color.

At Fox Improvements, we let our customers pick their own colors, and we provide the Sherman Williams Fan Deck to help you find the color of your dreams! Once you've chosen your colors and finish selections, you're ready to head to the paint store and purchase everything you need to complete your painting job.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind. Firstly, the cost of paint doesn't change based on the color you choose. Secondly, the paint type is important because using the wrong type can waste a lot of time.

Did we forget about primer? It's not always needed, but it can be necessary in certain situations, such as when there's mold, a water stain, oil finish, new drywall, bare wood, and more.
